I più grandi nomi della musica dell’anno si sono riuniti ieri all’UBS Arena di Long Island, New York, per avere la possibilità di portarsi a casa un MTV Video Music Awards.
Presentati da Megan Thee Stallion, gli MTV Video Music Awards del 2024 hanno visto la partecipazione di artisti del calibro di Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Glorilla, Karol G e LL Cool J, che si è esibito per la prima volta agli VMA in oltre 25 anni, celebrando nel contempo le migliori performance dell’anno.
Taylor Swift, che è arrivata con 10 nomination, ha dominato la cerimonia di premiazione con cinque vittorie in totale, tra cui quella di Artist of the Year; l’altra per “Fortnight“, il suo duetto con Post Malone. Altre vittorie sono arrivate per Ariana Grande, Eminem, Megan Thee Stallion e SZA. Sabrina Carpenter ha vinto la canzone dell’anno (“Express“) mentre Chappell Roan ha vinto il premio di Best New Artist.
Carpenter e Roan erano tra i nuovi candidati di quest’anno, tra i quali figuravano anche Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, Tyla, Jelly Roll, Jessie Murph, Rauw Alejandro, Sexyy Red, Victoria Monét, Alexander Stewart, Burna Boy, Coco Jones, Flyana Boss, Gracie Abrams, Gunna, Joyner Lucas, Laufey, LE SSERAFIM, Lojay, Morgan Wallen, Myke Towers, NCT Dream, Pheelz, Playboi Carti, RAYE, Shaboozey, Tyler Childers e The Warning.
Nel frattempo, Katy Perry ha ricevuto il Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award di quest’anno. Ha vinto anche per la Most Iconic Performance.
Gli MTV VMA del 2024 erano stati precedentemente programmati per martedì, prima di essere posticipati per non entrare in conflitto con il dibattito presidenziale tra Kamala Harris e Donald Trump su ABC. Cadendo nel 23° anniversario degli attacchi terroristici al World Trade Center, l’evento MTV ha anche onorato le organizzazioni non profit 9/11 Day e Tuesday’s Children.
